New Zealand gears up for the Americas Cup

From February 14th until March 9th New Zealand will host the competition for the longest contested trophy in international sports. Almost one and a half centuries of history preface the fight for sailing’s most prestigious award, the America’s Cup. In 1995, a New Zealand sailing team swiped the America’s Cup from the United States in San Diego, only the second time in 144 years that the cup was not won by an American team. Now, for the first time in the cup’s history, a US team will not even have the opportunity to win back the cup, having all lost out in the five-month elimination contests leading up to the final challenges. Instead, Team New Zealand are defending their title against the silver bullet like boat of the Italian team Prada. There is still time to book cheap flights to nz and make your way over to watch the epic race.
