Eating out in New York
“What can I get for ten dollars?” “Anything you want.” Yes, it’s true. New York is home to every kind of food imaginable, and with our attitude good quality is a must.
Besides the ethnic enclaves that dot the city, certain types of food pervade every area. Chinese food, pizza, and bagels are the best examples—MSG reaches every borough through so many plates of beef and broccoli, neon orange tomato sauce fills the arteries of every self-respecting New Yorker, and no native could be phklemped after starting the day with cream cheese and lox on a bagel.
Take advantage of all that the city has to offer, from cheap bar stool grub to the luxurious Tavern on the Green, but do not miss NYC’s street food: sweet roasted peanuts in the winter, mustard and sauerkraut-slathered hot dogs or pretzels throughout the year, and a summer favorite: flavored ice in any color of the fluorescent rainbow.
