Punta della Dogana

This 17th-century Customs House, standing guard at the mouth of the Grand Canal, has the finest views in town. St Mark’s, the lagoon and its islands are laid out before your eyes like a giant Cannaletto with a couple more motorboats. To be here as the sun rises over Venice, laid out beneath the weather vane figure of Fortune, is to see something you will never forget. It is also a popular spot for impromptu parties and with no neighbours to wake up the music doesn’t have to stop at eleven.
