Toulouse-Lautrec and the Spirit of Montmartre
The art of Toulouse Lautrec has become inextricable from the lively and creative spirit of Paris’ Montmarte district. The exhibition ‘Cabarets, Humor, and the Avant-Garde, 1875 – 1905′, includes more than 400 works that illustrate this spirit, including more than 70 by Henri Toulouse-Lautrec. Among the collection are books and journals, prints, posters, drawings, watercolors and various invitations and programs from cabaret, music hall and theatrical performances. The exhibition celebrates the significant role played by Lautrec within the swirl of artistic ideas and developments of the area and the way in which he touched the everyday lives of the Parisian public.
